Volunteer Clearance Process FAQs

Please also visit the official DCPS volunteer application page for further information.

Where can I get my TB test done?

  • If you have a primary care provider, you can usually get the test done at his or her office. Otherwise, various health clinics throughout the area, such as Unity Health Care, CVS or Walgreens, administer the test.
  • Please call the test location ahead of time to find out details including how much the test costs and what amount, if any, your insurance will cover.

What if I cannot make it to the DCPS office for fingerprinting?

  • If you will not be volunteering directly at a DCPS school, you have the option to pay for your FBI fingerprinting check through a different fingerprinting service. Proof of that check along with proof of a negative TB test in the last year and the completion of two additional registry checks will suffice as an alternative to the DCPS process. Contact volunteer@teensrundc.org for details.

What if I already passed a background check recently?

  • If you have completed an FBI fingerprint check in the last two years, proof of that along with proof of a negative TB test in the last year and the completion of two additional registry checks will suffice as an alternative to the DCPS process. Contact volunteer@teensrundc.org for details.

If the background check you passed was not an FBI fingerprint check, you will need to complete the DCPS clearance process.
