Join us for a free, timed 5K run in Anacostia Park!
New this year, TRDC’s monthly, timed races will allow students and volunteers to track their running progress on a regular basis as they work to improve their fitness levels and finish times over the course of the year. Races will take place on the first Saturday of each month, except when another TRDC race is scheduled for that month (i.e., Jingle All the Way in December, Cherry Blossom in April, and Mentoring Matters 5K in May).
If you are using the metro:
Take the metro to the Anacostia Metro Station. Follow the “Kiss and Ride” signs to reach the Metro exit nearest Anacostia Park. You will exit at the metro parking garage.
If you are driving: Free parking is available on weekends at the Anacostia Metro Station parking garage.
Once you reach the parking garage, look for the “Anacostia Park” sign posted on the fence running along the parking garage. Enter the park and follow the road past the US Park Police Facility (on your right), heading toward Anacostia Drive. Cross over Anacostia Drive and you will find the TRDC meeting place!
Monthly mentor training sessions focus on topics such as adolescent development, building and sustaining strong mentoring relationships, and motivating youth to set and achieve running-related goals. Trainings also allow time for volunteers to provide group support to one another, as they navigate the challenges and celebrate the successes of mentorship. Trainings will be held at 8:45am (immediately before practice) on the second Saturday of each month.
Trainings will be held outdoors, at the Yards Park, weather-permitting. Check back for meeting location updates in the case of inclement weather or contact Jen at 202-818-8600, Ext 1.
Mentor trainings are open to all TRDC volunteers; attendance is mandatory for active Mentors.
