New Volunteer Orientation
Jan 20 @ 8:45 am – 9:45 am

Join us for a volunteer orientation covering the basics of who we are and what we do at Teens Run DC. This 1-hour event is being offered as a make-up session for new volunteers who were not able to attend the 2017-18 Volunteer Orientation on Thursday, 9/7.

We will  provide an overview of TRDC’s mission and values; 2017-18 programming and events; and volunteer responsibilities and expectations. While this session will be offered as an abridged version of the September orientation, we will we be covering a lot of material in 1 hour, so please arrive on time!

Depending on weather, we will be meeting either at The Yards (at our regular Saturday practice meeting place) or at Philz Coffee (1331 4th St SE).

Attendance at a volunteer orientation is required for all new TRDC volunteers; returning volunteers are welcomed and encouraged to join!

Anacostia parkrun
Jan 27 @ 9:00 am – 11:00 am

Teens Run DC will be participating in one Anacostia parkrun per month.

parkrun offers free weekly timed 5K runs at park locations throughout the world. If you’re new to parkrun, register now, print out your bar code, and you’ll be all set to run any of the parkrun 5Ks in the DMV (as well as any of the other 1000+ parkruns available worldwide)! Please register for parkrun here, print out your barcode, and bring it to the run!

Please note that parkrun starts at 9am (one hour earlier than our regular Saturday practices).

By Metro

The closest Metro station is Anacostia Station on the Green Line. When you get off of the train, follow the signs for the Parking Garage exit/“Kiss & Ride” in order to reach the correct exit point (if you exit on the opposite side of the metro station, you will end up on Howard Road, farther from the park entrance). Once you exit the station, look for the pedestrian entrance to the park; it is a short 5 minute walk from the metro exit to the race start. You will see the National Park Service and Park Police buildings on your right as you proceed to the race start along Anacostia Drive.

By Car

Free parking is available at the Anacostia Metro Parking Garage on weekends. From 295 South, take Exit 4B toward Howard Road. At the traffic light, make a right onto Howard Road and then an immediate right toward the metro parking garage (this turn is easy to miss).

From 295 North, take exit 3A onto Barry Rd SE. At the first light turn left onto Firth Sterling Ave SE. Go two blocks and turn left onto Howard Rd SE. Immediately after the first light, turn right onto the access road for the metro parking garage.

Once you park, look for the pedestrian exit to the park and proceed on foot past the NPS and Park Police buildings until you reach Anacostia Drive.

Monthly Mentor Training
Feb 3 @ 8:45 am – 9:45 am

Join us for our monthly mentor training session! Trainings focus on topics such as adolescent development, building and sustaining strong mentoring relationships, and motivating youth to set and achieve running-related goals.

Trainings will be held at 8:45am (immediately before practice). We will plan to meet outdoors at The Yards whenever possible; in the case of inclement weather, we will meet at Philz Coffee, just around the corner.

Mentor trainings are open to all TRDC volunteers; attendance is mandatory for active Mentors.
