Training Schedule

Training Schedules for TRDC are based on the Run Walk Method.  It is anticipated that most runners will choose to follow the Half Marathon Training Program. Some students may choose to follow the 10K program.  Both of these programs are identical until the winter break.  In January students will choose to commit to one of these programs with the half marathon training making more demands.  For those who find the 10K program  too difficult, the miles required may be modified downwards in consultation with running leaders and mentors.

The Run-Walk Method as recommended in our training schedule is particularly useful for new runners starting out and for longer runs.  Over time you may find that for shorter distance runs, you can run without walking.  You may also find that over time you can run for longer intervals between breaks.

To run a marathon safely requires a solid running base on which to build.  Only those students who have participated in Teens Run DC for more than one year will be permitted to train for this race. In addition, they must have demonstrated the discipline, responsibility, and maturity to follow this physically and emotionally rigorous regime.
